Athletes  >  Masters
an overview
Athletics North Queensland supports and promotes athletics for all ages and abilities. This incorporates events ranging from running, jumping, throwing and walking. FITNESS, FUN and FRIENDSHIP for all. Master athletes abilities range from beginners all the way through to competing on the world stage. 

Membership starts from 30 years through to 100+. 

Competition is conducted in 5-year age divisions, e.g. M40-44, W55-59. Members from all walks of life, all levels of ability are welcome.

Athletics Season in North Queensland is conducted during the winter months to escape the higher summer temperatures and humidity. Track and field competitions are normally between March - September each year, with the road running events normally running between January and December each year. The North Queensland Championships, which is North Queensland equivalent to the State Championships, is held in late September every year. 

In Southern Queensland, it is usually conducted from October through to March/April. The Summer Track and Field Program leads up to the State Championships usually held in March and the National Championships which are usually held over the Easter long weekend with the host state changing each year on a rotational basis.




Masters athletes have been very active so far in 2016 with good participation across North Queensland: 

  • Bowen Track and Field Carnival: 25
  • Cairns Grand Prix: 16 
  • ANQ All Comers and QMA Championships: 120 
  • Mulgrave Relay Day - ask robyn numbers 
  • North Queensland Games: 45
  • Emerald Carnival - ask robyn for numbers
  • Coral Coast Carnival: 28

-          October 26 – Nov. 6/16 (closes on-line Aug.22) – World Masters Championships, Perth



-          March. 19-25/17 – World Masters Indoor Championships, Daegu, Sth Korea

-       April 8 & 9 / 2017- Queensland Masters Championships Brisbane

-          June 9-12/17 – Australian Masters Championships, Darwin.
