North Queensland Cross Country Championships


The 2024 ANQ Cross Country Championship are hosted by the Whitsunday Running Club on behalf of Athletics North Queensland – Queensland Athletics and Athletics Australia’s representatives in the north. Held in Galbraith Park, Cannon Valley.

The North Queensland Cross Country Championships will hold the following events:

  • Race One – 10kms (Open Men and Women 20+).

  • Race Two – 8kms (Men Under 20 and Masters Men).

  • Race Three – 6kms (Women Under 20, Boys 17/18, Masters Women and Men 70+).

  • Race Four – 4kms (Girls 15/6/17/18 and Boys 15/16).

  • Race Five – 3kms (Girls and Boys 12/13/14).

  • Race Six – 2kms (Boys and Girls Under 11).

  • Race Seven – 1km (Boys and Girls 4/5/6/7/8/9/10).

  •   Open Women (born 2004 or earlier)

8:00 Race Two (8 km – 4 laps):

  •   Under 20 Men (born 2005/2006)

  •   Masters Men 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-69

8:45 Race Three (6 km – 3 laps):

  •   Under 17/18 Boys (born 2007/2008)

  •   Under 20 Women (born 2005/2006)

  •   Masters Women 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+

  •   Masters Men 70+

9:30 Race Four (4 km – 2 laps):

  •   Under 17/18 Girls (born 2007/2008)

  •   Under 15/16 Girls (born 2009/2010)

  •   Under 15/16 Boys (born 2009/2010)

10:00 Race Five (3 km – 1x2km plus 1x1km):

  •   Under 12 Girls (born 2013)

  •   Under 12 Boys (born 2013)

  •   Under 13/14 Girls (born 2011/2012)

  •   Under 13/14 Boys (born 2011/2012)

10:30 Race Six (2 km – 1 lap):

10:45 Race Seven (1 km – 1 lap):

Things to do in the Whitsundays

The must-do things to do when visiting the Whitsundays are:

  • Day trip out to the Great Barrier Reef with Cruise Whitsundays.
  • Half or full-day trip to Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet with Cruise Whitsundays, Camira, Ocean Rafting, or Red Cat Tours.
  • Flight over the Great Barrier Reef by seaplane or helicopter.
  • Jetski tour with Whitsunday Jetskis.
  • Crocodile tour to the Proserpine River.
  • Tuk Tuk tour of Airlie.
  • Segway tour of Airlie.

Places to Stay

The closest accommodation to the Race Precinct is at the Big 4 Adventure Park and the Reef Gateway Hotel – both within walking distance. Other suitable accommodation options can be found at Mantra Club Croc, NMRA Airlie Beach Holiday Park and Colonial Palms Motor Inn.
