On October 20-22, 2020 World and Oceania Athletics ran a Gender Leadership Seminar.  Athletics North Queensland was represented by Kate Colahan.

Kate has been involved in coaching and club development in North Queensland since 2010. Her experience, skill sets and positive and energic personality have contributed to the growth of many athletes, officials and coaches, as well the success of the Athletics for the Outback – Queensland Program – with the establishment of athletics activities and clubs in remote communities.

At the Gender Leadership Course, female leaders were provided with the opportunity to undertake the skills, knowledge and understanding required to empower them to apply and take on leadership roles within their club or Member Federation.

“In a world where people tend to criticise instead of praising, it was fantastic to be part of a group of likeminded people.  We need to raise the confidence of women in our sport, support and promote each other.

This is a sport that I love, I want to see it grow and prosper. By bringing Equity to our sport, we will see other women take on roles, be coaches and continue to be athletes.  Lead by example and welcome your peers.”
