Pace Camp lays base for future work

Senior members of Pace Running and Multisport took advantage of Stage 3 of easing Covid 19 restrictions with a four-day training camp at Tinaroo recently.

The senior camp involved 22 senior members of the group at Lavender Hill, Tinaroo from July 9-12.

Coach Jill Boltz said over the four days athletes completed speed and hill sessions, intervals for speed, as well as strength and conditioning. The team finished off with their traditional long run on the final day of camp around the shores of Lake Tinaroo.

“When we heard that restrictions were easing we jumped onto this camp straight away,” Jill said. “We had money raised from the All Schools canteen and other fundraising, so it was good to be able to give back to the families who had worked so hard for our club.

“Our annual camp and a second senior camp were both cancelled due to Covid-19 earlier this year, so this was a nice way to lift the kids’ spirits and get back into full training.

“I think it is great to hold camps like this because it benefits the kids not just physically but also mentally. Running is an individual sport, but they come together as a team and the camps help develop strong bonds within the squad.

“With the announcement of the Queensland Cross Country Championships in September and the North Track and Field Championships in October we have firm goals now and the camp has set the groundwork for what work needs to be done before these events.”
